FOR BETTER WATER: Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegaoi sings a contract to officially commence a multi-million project which will improve clean water supply to some parts of the country, while Head of the European Union to the Pacific, Ambassador Wiepke van der Goot, alongside Deputy CEO for Ministry of Finance, Lusia Sefo Leau looks on.

Here’s some great news for those living in areas listed below especially at this time when water supply is causing much headaches.
Faleaseela to Saanapu, Fusi and Saaga, from Saleilua to Amaile, from Faleapuna to Falefa, from Fagafau to satuiatua, from Sataua to Asau, and the Safotu area.
Reliable and clean treated water supply to the above areas will be made possible thanks to a $44 million tala funding from the European Union as part of the Water Supply Scheme in Samoa.
The Samoa Water Authority, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture and the Independent Water Scheme Association are also partners in the scheme.

Yesterday, Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Lupesoliai Sailele Malielegao together with the Head of the European Union to the Pacific, Wiepke van der Goot, and representative of French company Farmex Water Technologies signed a contract to start formalities of the project which is expected to be completed within 33 weeks.
The project will include refurbishment of intakes and boreholes, pumps, water treatment and chlorination plants, water tanks and laying of water pipes for main lines and household connections.
Tuilaepa thanked the EU for their assistance towards Samoa and its people.
“The signing of this contract is testimony to a very active ongoing cooperation, and I hope that prior to the execution of the works we reach our objective, by supplying clean sustainable water to 30,000 people around Samoa,” Tuilaepa said.
The main objective of the European Commission Development Policy for Samoa is poverty and hardship reduction through ensuring community access to clean and sustainable water.
As well as reflecting the vital importance of water services and water management for social development, also contributing to the Millennium development Goals, which aims ‘to halve the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation by 2015.
