The mother of a three year old boy has reported to Newsline that her son has become ill with diarrhea due to the pools at the Faleata swimming complex.
This comes after, an article was written in Newsline reporting other cases of diarrhea caused by the water at the pools.
“I took my son there (to the Aquatic Centre, Faleata) on Thursday 21st February for swimming lessons, he contracted very bad diarrhea that night and I am certain that it was because of the water in the pools,” said the concerned mother.
She explained that it could not have been something he had eaten because both he and his sister ate the same food, and only he had diarrhea not his sister.
“When we were at the pools, he had swallowed some of the water; I can confirm this because he kept spitting some out of his mouth.
“That night he was vomiting and when he went to the toilet, it was green.
“The doctor said, it was possibly caused by bacteria that he had contracted, and I know it was definitely a germ from the pool.”
This mother, who prefers to remain anonymous, says that she believes there is little or no chlorine in the water, which is causing bacterium to grow and spread.
“Usually when you swim in a swimming pool with chlorine, your eyes turn red and bloodshot, not here (Faleata Aquatic Center) you cannot even smell the chlorine, whereas at any other public pool anywhere around the world you can.”
When asked if it could have possibly been because of the heavy rain experienced in the past couple of weeks she said no.
“We went there on a perfectly sunny day; there were no signs of rain at all.”
She says that this was the first time she had taken her son to the Aquatic Centre and believes that if the chlorine is at the right level, cases of diarrhea can be prevented in the future.
“Apart from that, the environment at the Aquatic Center is very clean, and it is a nice place to have a swim, it is just unfortunate that the chlorine levels are not right.”
