NIU PHARMACY OWNER : A hectic Zhenna Chan Mow amongst the mess of card boxes and plastic bags she is on a rush to clear as part of the preparations for Monday's opening.

A dream that was nurtured through tough times of university education and internship training, is about to bear fruits after 6 long years.
NIU Pharmacy is the name of that dream, appropriately named after a tree that is referred to in Samoa as the tree of life (coconut tree or NIU).
The dream belongs to Ms. Zhenna Chan Mow, a 23 year old pharmaceutical graduate of the University of Otago in New Zealand, and 2 years of internship work divided equally between New Zealand and Samoa.
The young owner is all set to open for business for the first time tomorrow morning, at the Chan Mow Building at Saleufi, from 9.00am -5.00pn and from 6.00pm - 8.00pm in the evening.
“The location for NIU Pharmacy holds strong sentiments for me personally because this is where my grandfather, Chan Mow, started,” she told Newsline during a rare break in a race against the clock to get everything ready for tomorrow.
“My grandfather and maternal grandmother, Ms. Lisi Vaai were my inspiration – they urged me to do my best in school.”
Zhenna Chan Mow began school at the Apia Primary before changing schools to Robert Louis Stevenson and to the National University of Samoa Foundation programme in 2001.
She won a Government scholarship to study in New Zealand, and with her strong background in chemistry and maths, she opted to study for a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy.
“I’ve always leaned towards the health field and my parents suggested pharmacy.”
Zhenna is the elder of two children to parents Tugaga Sani and Ioana Chan Mow.
“I’m both excited and apprehensive about tomorrow, there are so many things that I still have to put in place before the opening.
“My whole family has been very supportive, they have all stepped in and help out wherever their help is needed.”
The NIU Pharmacy will become the fourth in town after the Apia Pharmacy, where Ms. Chan Mow took up her year of internship in Samoa.
The Samoa Pharmacy and Maria’s Health Care Pharmacies are the other two.
“ I believe there is still room for more, there is need for one in Savaii because people there have to come to Apia for their medicine.
“We also have overseas visitors from New Zealand, Australia and America, who require our services while in the country.”
NIU Pharmacy is starting off with a staff of four, but intends to take in more later on.
