Survival Foundation, the organisation behind the stalled Baby Miracle trip to New Zealand, will have to front up with at least $200,000 before she is issued any entry visa.
The condition of entry was confirmed yesterday by the New Zealand Immigration Attaché in Apia, Lauano Mr. Ati Ilaoa.
Lauano was responding to efforts by Newsline to confirm assurances from the Survival Foundation President, Tuilaepa Mary Grey, that Baby Miracle will fly out this week.
“All I can say is that Baby Miracle will be leaving for New Zealand this week,” Tuilaepa assured Newsline on Monday.
She was unable however to comment on whether any entry visas were granted for the child and her family.
Immigration Attaché, Lauano A, on the other hand confirmed the application for an entry permit, but his office is still waiting on the Survival Foundation to satisfy the necessary criterias to be met before any approval is granted.
“The visa application for Baby Miracle was forwarded to our Immigration medical assessor in New Zealand for an assessment of the baby and the requirements for granting a visa,” Lauano explained.
Included amongst the assessed requirements to be met after having reviewed Baby Miracle’s case, was confirmation of a hospital where the child will receive medical attention.
Doctors who will take up the case had to be confirmed and who will foot the costs as well as proof that the costs will be met.
“No visa can be granted until there is confirmation of who will pay for the medical costs and if the costs will be met.”
Baby Miracle was supposed to be flown to New Zealand for medical attention several weeks ago, until earlier plans by the Survival Foundation fell into disarray.
The severely deformed two-month-old baby, was originally scheduled to be flown out with her family three weeks ago, compliments of PolyBlue.
Plans fell through however when the organisers were unable to secure an entry visa to New Zealand, and PolyBlue was unaware of having offered any free trip.
Local and overseas medical opinion has overwhelmingly ruled out any hopes of longterm survival for Baby Miracle.
Government is not prepared to offer financial support through its overseas health assistance programme under the weight of a very poor prognosis report.
A second charity organisation, Thorn Ministries, has offered to step in, with plans to send Baby Miracle to the United States if the trip to New Zealand does not work out.
But that remains to be seen if the Survival Foundation will come through this second time around, to send Baby Miracle to New Zealand.
