The 10th Annual Pasifika Medical Association Conference, have addressed the issue of climate change and its effects on the Pacific Island environments. Aclimate change and global warming can do immense damage to Pacific Island environments.
In a study conducted for the conference it states that; “despite increasing understanding that climate change has multiple influences on human health, health systems have generally responded reactively and there has been little progress in defining specific measures to increase long term resilience to climate change.”
Lemalu says Pacific Islands such as Tuvalu are heavily affected also happen to Samoa.
“The damages caused to the environment are directly linked to water borne and sea borne diseases such as typhoid, diahorrea and others these diseases can spread through the islands very quickly and cause many problems.”
It is important to come together when n it comes to major issues such as climate change as collective voices are more effective than a single country.
