Nina Netzler-von Reiche who heads Xtreme Performance has become one of the most popular trainers and diet persons in Samoa following the popularity of her 12 week weight loss programmes.

Nina Netzler-von Reiche personally sees to it that all those who register for the 12 week programme are weighed and measured at the beginning of the programme. She also gives out a guide for the participants on how to reduce their weight by moderating eating of carbs and sugary products.

The present programme is into its second week and each participant has a choice of having their own exercise programme to supplement their diets or they attend special traning sessions with Xtreme Performance trainers at the Health Attach gymnasium at Motootua.

A number of prizes sponsored by the likes of Nike are now being introduced to make the 12 week challenge programme interesting.

E sili le puipuia nai lo le togafitia.
written by Sifa, August 13, 2008
What??? Within a span of two minutes, I’ve giggled, scoffed and sneered and then peaked with amazement and shock, before I settled on a serious sigh of pity and commiseration expressed with an audible whisper of “Kalofa e,!” But then I started to reminisce a little and thinking that my kua (outbacks) upbringing may have caused me to be skeptical about the article. Back then, (70's, 80's, 90's), in the villages, there were no obese or overweight people...hmmm...well, except the matais (chiefs), who, given their sedentary and inactive lifestyles, had taken on the common gargantuan reputation of a typical Samoan. On the other hand, the children, teenagers, and taulele’as (untitled men), mostly as a result of their active lifestyles, enjoy physiques that range from near undernourishment, to those of buffed and sculpted hunks. Women, generally, follow a similar prototype, until they become a tausi and/or faletua (wife of a chief), when “fat” starts to replace “fit”. Compared those to the “fat-food-fed” American-raised Samoans, for example, and one can easily see why Samoan youths in the islands are generally fit, have natural agility and athletic tendencies.

Though we must succumb to the fact that times, hence diets and lifestyles, have changed, nonetheless, Samoans, in general, still have daily access to fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and carbohydrates - the basics for a healthy diet. Complement and supplement those with an active lifestyle, and intervention such as Xtreme may not be needed after all. And despite the fact that a typical Samoa diet comprises of 70% complex carbohydrates, the heavy demands for energy on a daily basis, not only keep the fat side effects of these carbs in check, but also make such a diet effective.

Samoans, however, still need to be educated and informed on health issues and proper nutrition, especially with the recent inroads of diabetes and other diseases which, unfortunately, make the advent of Xtreme and other similar programs timely and necessary.

Suggestion: Cut the pe’epe’e (coconut milk) in some of the Samoan favorites.

its good that Nina Netzler is trying her best from her side but here in savaii people also wish to have some gynasiums built as well. most of the development happens in upolu only but it would be glad and much appreciated if people tend to NOT forget about Savaii.

There are lot of people who are concrened about their weight and such programs here in savaii can really give them a chance of reducing weight............so pls consider my request
