Though we must succumb to the fact that times, hence diets and lifestyles, have changed, nonetheless, Samoans, in general, still have daily access to fish, seafood, fruits, vegetables, and carbohydrates - the basics for a healthy diet. Complement and supplement those with an active lifestyle, and intervention such as Xtreme may not be needed after all. And despite the fact that a typical Samoa diet comprises of 70% complex carbohydrates, the heavy demands for energy on a daily basis, not only keep the fat side effects of these carbs in check, but also make such a diet effective.
Samoans, however, still need to be educated and informed on health issues and proper nutrition, especially with the recent inroads of diabetes and other diseases which, unfortunately, make the advent of Xtreme and other similar programs timely and necessary.
Suggestion: Cut the pe’epe’e (coconut milk) in some of the Samoan favorites.
