The influx of tourists coming to Samoa for the South Pacific Games has managed to fill the incoming flights to Sam

Air New Zealand yesterday confirmed that the airline has had to add in an extra flight to their schedule to accommodate all the passengers.

According to Ricky McFall, General Manager of Air New Zealand, almost all the flights arriving from New Zealand and Australia are fully booked.

“Our flights are full but they are not over booked,” says Mr. McFall.

One additional flight will be included in the South Pacific Games flight schedule.

Mr. McFall explained, “We will have an extra flight on the 23rd of August.”

Newsline searched the Air New Zealand website and found that the additional flight on the 23rd of August was already fully booked along with all other flights arriving from Auckland, New Zealand apart from one on Saturday 25th August.

There are two different types of planes that currently fly into Samoa and it is possible bigger ones could be used should demand requires it.

The biggest is the Boeing 767, which can hold up to 230 passengers during any one flight.

The smaller of the two, the A320, can carry up to 150 passengers during the flight.

Air New Zealand will also be chartering the Cook Island’s and Niue teams to Samoa for SPG.

“These flights are apart from our current schedule,” says Mr. McFall.

Mr. McFall revealed the Cook Island Team would be arriving on their charter plane on the 23rd of August and will be departing back to the Cook Islands on the 9th of September.

The athletes and officials from Niue will be arriving on the 24th of August and departing on the 7th of September.

In a previous interview, Mr. McFall mentioned that the New Caledonian team will be chartered to Samoa by one of New Caledonia’s local airlines.
