All Black jerseys are apparently not for rugby players only, taxi drivers for Winkys Taxi Stand across the road from the Motootua Hospital are parading them around, because that’s their new uniform. This is all thanks to blind side flanker and All Blacks star, Samoan Jerry Collins.
According to Tea Collins Sanst, Manager of Winkys Taxi Stand and relative of Jerry Collins she says they had sent Jerry Collins a request for a uniform and they got just that.
“I had asked him for a uniform, and to my surprise he gave me All Black jerseys for my drivers. I just returned from New Zealand and I brought the uniform with me, Jerry could not come because it has coincided with the World Cup,” says Sanst.
However, she adds that it does not stop here, Sanst says she has spoken to Jerry Collins on the phone and confirmed that when he returns to New Zealand he will get them another uniform, and he will either come to Samoa and bring it over or send it here.
She says that the stand has fundraised for uniforms in the past but admits that this one is different.
“It is a very special gift and we will be taking very good care of it.”
She says that all the drivers are very happy about the uniform and are looking forward to receiving another one.
She adds that they have had a lot of positive feedback from their passengers.
“We have a lot of people calling in saying how great it is that we have a uniform and that the drivers look great in them, but thanks goes to Jerry for donating them.”
Winky’s Taxis currently has 25 taxis with wireless and 20 using mobile phones, its main branch is at Leufisa.
