 Reigning Miss NUS, Pearl McFall

A proactive member of the student Association of the National University of Samoa has confirmed that there will be no Miss NUS pageant this year.
“There is no pageant this year. This year there was no initiative by the student association to have a pageant.”
When asked whether this had anything to do with scandal that surrounded former Miss NUS Pearl McFall, the source that prefers to remain anonymous said absolutely not.
“Last years pageant and what had happened to Pearl has nothing to do with it. As we all know University students are very busy with their school work and can only afford to focus on one major plan or event, this year we have chosen something different from the pageant.”
Pearl McFall, the reigning Miss NUS, contested and won the Miss Samoa pageant last year (2006) on the night.
However because she did not meet the minimum age requirement she had to officially relinquish her title to first runner up whom also vied for the Miss NUS crown with Pearl and was second runner up, Poinsettia Taefu.
A lot of controversy arose as a result of this, and the National University of Samoa was accused of entering an under age contestant.
The source claimed that NUS proved that a student from the University could win the pageant despite the age.
The source adds that every year they take the risk of hosting one major event.
“This year we are having the ‘Exhibition Night’ which is a ball for the whole of Samoa hosted by NUS. This is our major event and we (Student Association) are concentrating on just this one event.”
Before Pearl McFall the Miss NUS was Anita Jamieson who also represented the University in the Miss Samoa pageant and won.
