Another Bus Roll Over –Aleipata PDF Print E-mail

The country woke up on Tuesday morning to breaking radio news reports about another bus roll over, with a full load of school children and town workers, as it was making the hour long ride from Aleipata into Apia,
The accident occurred around 7.00am when the bus ended up on its back, in a small dip on the side of the road, with wheels spinning in the air,
The bus reportedly failed to negotiate a sharp elbow turn, on the road going past the Afulilo Hydro project at Aleipata.
Police are investigating the cause but speeding is strongly suspected.
Eyewitness reports that the bus driver’s assistant was driving at the time of the accident are yet to be confirmed by the investigations.
Except for a young girl who is reportedly in serious condition at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital most of the passengers were treated for cuts and bruises and discharged.
The Tuesday morning roll over accident is the second in the space of a few weeks.
The Tiavi Cross Island Road accident earlier on, killed three people and injured 12. It has also led to the closure of the short cut route to buses traveling to the other side of Upolu island.

As I posted before, need to have bus drivers well educated and have a different set of standards and training to go thru before receiving a driver's license. They are dealing with the public and the lives of many are on their hands everyday. Roads usually contributing factors to these accidents but the root of the problem are the operators or drivers.
Buses or Roads??
written by Tania Gardham, July 22, 2008
I have just returned from a beautiful holiday in Apia and caught the local bus, , I did notice the roads really need work on them , pot holes every where and very narrow... Is it the roads that need work on to prevent accidents, if its the bus can they be made of something abit stronger then wood?? I hate to see people being injured, if the government can do something to fix the roads why arent they? Don't wait for another accident to occur it's just not fair on all the hardworking families in Samoa.
PUT A STOP TO IT!!!!!

WHATEVA!!!!!! people choose wisely and be alert of any carelesness that may arise while your on the bus. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF OUR MOMS,DADS,SISTERS,BROTHERS AND IMPORTANTLY OUR GRANDPARENTS.
