The Chief Executive Officer for National Health, Dr. Stanley Dean, yesterday confirmed to Newsline that the Leifiifi College student who was severely burned during a school brawl was undergoing the final procedures to transport her to New Zealand, and if complete she would have departed for New Zealand last night for specialized treatment.

Dr. Stanley Dean says that seventeen year old, Francella Tuala will be receiving special treatment at Middlemore Hospital, New Zealand as doctors here cannot operate on her due to extent of her facial burns.

“26% of her body has been burned (second degree burns), including her face, neck, upper chest and along her right arm, and she will be requiring plastic surgery to her face, which cannot be done in Samoa,” says Dr. Stanley.

Dr. Stanley adds that the operation could have been done in Samoa if she only required skin crafting, but because her face was severely affected by the burns she is in need of specialized treatment (plastic surgery) available in New Zealand.

Dr. Stanley says that the funding for Francella’s treatment will be paid for jointly like every other patient sent overseas for specialized treatment by the Government of Samoa and New Zealand.

However, Dr. Stanley stated that the airfares of Francella and members of her family traveling with her are being paid for by the Catholic Church.

Tragedy occurred last Friday when Francella Tuala, an innocent bystander became a victim of attack by a Don Bosco Technical Centre student who threw her with a Molotov bomb transforming her upper body into a human fireball.

Francella Tuala was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital, and a suspect of her attacker is currently in Police Custody under investigation.

Catholic Schools from around Samoa are gathering at the Mulivai Grounds this morning along with students from Francellas school, Leifiifi College for a Special Mass where they will be praying for peace and harmony amongst schools as well as Francellas welfare.

Its beyond imagination and sadness, lost for words to describe how this innocent life has been affected in an instant.
Did she ever realize anywhere in her lifetime that one day her face will be changed? If only we know of our destiny it would have been an easier journey. But hey, who can bring back the joy of a once normal looking girl into its original stage? Who can turn back time? Who can correct the past?

We can say as much as we like but only God can give the full answer and fair judgement
It brings tears to the eyes as we ask ourselves. What about if that was me who got burned in flames or if that was my sister of my daughter??
I just cant take it anymore. All that can only come to mind is to pay back what has been done.

These thoughts I dont think the perpetrators ever thought of upon while organising their evil plan.

I pray from the bottom of my heart for the peace, joy and acceptance this innocent girl has been put thru, when she comes back. And I hope she gains more that what she had lost. My prayers and blessings for her loving family.
LAstly for those who did this to her. May you find real repentance and renewed hope in Christ who is the only one who can control your lives and actions to a better future.

God bless Samoa
