Commissioner Silent on Criminal Charges against Assistant PDF Print E-mail

Police Commissioner, Papali’i Lorenese Neru is remaining tight lipped over the case between one of his Assistant Police Commissioners and two female officers.
All he did mention was that they are now awaiting a verdict from the court and he will no longer be speaking on the case.
“I will not comment any further on the matter,” explained Papali’i, “it has been handed over and we will now have to await the decision by the court.”
Once charges were filed on Monday the matter was handed over to the Office of the Attorney General for prosecution.
Details of the charges filed by police are being kept under wraps by the Police Commissioner and Attorney General, Ming Leung Wai.
“I have been informed by the Police that criminal charges against the Assistant Commissioner have been filed,” was all Mr. Leung Wai could say.
“I am expecting to receive today (Monday) from Police the file and copy of the charges since my office will be handling the prosecution.”
Many other details are not being made public; however, Papali’i did mention the Commissioner involved has been on leave since the matter was raised.
Papali’i believes this incident should not bring any mistrust to the police by the public because everyone makes mistakes in every organisation.
“Any turn of events in any organisation can perhaps spell a different perception by the public.
“The public has to be aware that the police are human beings as well, we all make mistakes.
“We need to turn a new left and the public need to have trust in the police.”
He also says there is no need for the public to believe that senior police officers are using their ranking to sexually abuse female officers.
“That is just the perception of the public.”
