Druggie scholar a mystery to officials in Samoa

The Samoan student on scholarship in Australia, who was allegedly caught with marijuana in his possession at Faleolo Airport, will appear before court on the 21st of this month to face drug charges. But as of Friday last week, scholarship officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Australian High Commission Office in Apia were still trying to determine who the student was. Newsline contacted the Australian High Commission Office in Apia on Friday morning for a comment on this matter. The lady who we spoke to said they were aware of the case but were not sure that any of their scholarship recipients were involved in the drug case. Newsline Newspaper Catch up with News. At press time, we did not receive any official comment. Meanwhile, an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they were investigating the matter. The official added that they have contacted the authorities who have dealt with the case, those being the customs and the Police to determine whom this student is. Newsline was inquiring whether this student would have his or her scholarship stripped because of what happened. It’s understood the student returned home from his scholarship for holidays when he was caught by sniff dogs at the Faleolo Airport. He has been remanded at liberty to await his court appearance. Scholarship students have already started heading back to their perspective universities after spending Christmas holidays with families.
