The Member of Parliament from the Sagaga Le Usoga Constituency, Muagututagata Peter Ah Him says the continuous trend of Police files gone missing before court proceedings concerns him.

The MP made the remarks during Parliament’s morning session yesterday.
“We have heard through the media about the increase number of people being caught with drug related offences,” Muagututagata told Parliament. “What worries me is the fact that Police files are reportedly gone missing before these cases are due in court. Because of this some of the complainants in some matters are being deprived of justice.”
Muagututagata urged the management of the Police force to keep an eye out for those responsible.
“If they are caught make sure to lock them up and let them face the full force of justice.”
Police Assistant Commissioner and Media Spokesperson, Papaliitele Li’o Masipa’u strongly refuted Muagututaga’s claims.
“That’s not true,” Papaliitele said. “So far our files are in place. None of our big drug cases are being postponed or withdrawn due to any lost files.”
Papaliitele said all Police files of drug related offences are handled by the Attorney General’s Office.
“All our cases that are prosecuted in the Supreme Court are handled by the AG’s office,” Papaliitele pointed out. “They have the original files but we also keep spare files of those cases. We also have a database of these cases so I’m not sure where he (MP) got those from.”
Meanwhile, the MP also raised the issue of people suffering from diseases like diabetes and hypertension preferring traditional treatment (fofo) over the advice of doctors and exercising.
“It’s important for them to take their prescribed tablets and exercise,” Muagututagata said. “Some people prefer to just go to fofo but that won’t do much good. But if they take their tablets and exercise, sweat out then that would be very healthy.”
Parliament is scheduled to reconvene this morning at nine.

Drug related offences...Justice, Help or Research?
written by The Samoan fella, January 18, 2008
“We have heard through the media about the increase number of people being caught with drug related offences,”
Forget the files....there seems to be an even bigger problem looming in the back ground. Drugs are usually a symptom of far reaching social issues. As other countries have found out through years of trial and era, Education and research is a key to minimising the effects of drugs in the community. Not everyone who has a glass of wine is an alcoholic so therefore not everyone who chooses to smoke cannabis is a druggie! Samoa could be real clever and look at decriminalisation, legalisation, or even looking into the pharmaceutical applications of Marijuana. What about it's cousin Hemp? If cannabis grows well then Hemp is to thrive as well and one doesn't need to be a politician or police commissioner to figure out the benefits Hemp can have on the economy! It cold do more then breadfruit powered cars.

The other side of the coin is this.......So what? If there's money to be made then make it for the sake of Samoa's economy and sell it to the west....maybe?
