MP Wary Of Police Overreacting

Opposition Member of Parliament, Palusalue Fa’apo II. The reaction by the police in the arresting and charging of two New Zealand based Samoan women lawyers has raised the curious eyebrows of Opposition Member of Parliament, Palusalue Fa’apo II. What the MP from Safata is wary of, is whether the actions the police took were in keeping with their role of serving the public properly. “If they were negligent in their duties then they are obviously slipping up on their sworn responsibilities and obligations to the public.” He admitted however that he is not aware of all the facts of the two separate incidents where the two Auckland lawyers, Ms. Orlinda Woodroofe and Ms. Iuni Sapolu Fuimaono were arrested and charged. “I don’t have all the facts of what happened but I am concerned that the bad publicity could have a negative impact on public willingness to work in partnership with the police,” MP Palusalue told Newsline yesterday. “I’m also wary of how issues of this kind could have a forbidding effect on these people with legal skills coming to offer their help to the people in Samoa who need their services.” Ms. Iuni Sapolu was held in custody for 24 hours on charges related to disrespectful behaviour towards the police.
