The New Police Building on Beach Road, Apia

The Samoan Police Force will soon be moving out of their old rugged offices into their new building.
The new Police Building is due to be officially handed over to the Government of Samoa by the Australian High Commission this month.
Final touches of the building are now being completed, explained Australian High Commissioner, Honourable Matt Anderson.
“Construction of the combined Police Headquarters and Apia Police Station is almost complete and will be handed over to the Police for occupation in December 2007.”
The police building will be used for various purposes including provide training facilities for executive and senior members, “as well as core police training to improve basic operational and investigative capacity.”
The construction began in April 2006 and is a component of the Samoa Police Project which is funded by Australia.
Along with the building the project also hopes to increase community awareness for a “safer Samoa”.
Anderson says the project also “aims to strengthen the capacity of the Samoa Police Service.”
There will be many benefits to the public when the new building is officially opened sometime in the New Year including a large public enquiry area.
The reason why the old Police building was replaced was because it is completely run down, with areas which cannot be used because of unsafe floors, and was no longer in a state where it was worth repairing.
“The Samoa Police Service was located in a collection of former colonial wooden buildings.
“The buildings were in an advanced state of disrepair with some sections unusable due to dangerously weak floors.”
