Another male from the village of Sinamoga stood before court last Monday to answer to rape and incest charges that he faces.
He pleaded not guilty to his charges and Assistant Police Commissioner, Papalii Taeu Masipau has confirmed that sexual abuse is becoming more and more of a concern within the Ministry of Police.
“Sexual abuse is very much a problem in this country, and the Ministry of Police has had many initiatives to help counter the problem of sexual abuse:” Papalii said.
At the moment many awareness programs are underway in different villages around Upolu and Savaii that educate people about sexual abuse.
“We are working together with Ministry of Women and internal affairs and are concentrating within the villages; especially villages were people do not really know each other like Vaitele, these are the target areas for the awareness programs.”
Papalii continues to urge the public to report any such incidents to the Police so that those responsible can be arrested.

Parents Need To Listen
written by Peka, February 22, 2008
I've come across many kids from different walks of life being a youth leader. And a number of them were sexually molested by family members or family friends. The problem was, when telling their parents....they were accused of lying and wanting attention. And when the problem becomes unresolved, not only does that child suffer, but so does that person's child and so on in the future. When are the parents going to believe their children when serious issues like these come about? I too, had almost been molested by a family friend until I fought back and told my parents. My dad went after the guy to beat the living crap out of the jerk....from that day forward, that guy never came around. Parents...please protect your children and let them know that you are there for them no matter what. I was 19 when this crap happended. I'm now 34 and I'm teaching my baby sister of 9 yrs old to fight back when people tries to touch her unappropriately and to tell me or my folks. This sort of problem has been around for ages and will continue when we neglect those that are in arms reach. As for the jerks and women who takes advantage of the innocence....you all need to burn in a "umu pit"....if you are a victim of incest, get help. There are places and people you could turn to. My prayers that you will heal from this ordeal and be able to help others to stand up and fight.
