The incident involving a car and a pedestrian last Saturday along Beach Road outside popular Nightclubs has been confirmed as a Hit and Run.

Assistant Police Commissioner, Lilo Fou, confirmed this and said they had the driver of the vehicle in police custody.

An eye witness of the event recalled the night John Uale was struck by a car which resulted in his death.

The witness stated the vehicle involved was driving along beach road in the direction from the town clock towards the Police Station when it ran into Uale.

Blood was splattered on the road and the police came to the scene, where they proceeded to cordoned off the scene of the crime and take statements from those who saw the incident, explained the witness.

Mr. Uale passed away earlier this week at the Tupua Tamasese Meole Hospital due to severe head injuries, confirmed Lemalu Dr. Limbo Fui, Head of Clinical Services.

The hospital is currently awaiting results of the post mortem as required for the court proceedings against the driver of the vehicle who is being charged with Negligent Driving Causing Death.

Lilo stated, however, that the driver could be facing additional charges if evidence shows that the driver was driving above the speed limit or under the influence of alcohol.

In a separate incident where a person was shot last week end , Lemalu Dr. Limbo Fui has confirmed the death of Fagai’i Laulua’i Tafea at Se’ese’e.

Tafea was brought into the Tupua Tamasese Meole Hospital after being shot in the upper chest.

Lemalu says he died on Sunday due to “injuries as a result of the bullet hitting vital blood vessels.”

The Hospital is currently undertaking a post mortem on the body which is required by law for the court proceedings of the alleged shooter.

Assistant Police Commissioner, Lilo Fou, confirmed to Newsline the police have the shooter in custody and he is being charged with the murder of Tafea.
