The gloves are coming off in the police handling of student fights breaking out in Apia, following the eruption of violence last Friday.
Several people were injured, including a 17 year student girl from Leififi College, who may need specialised treatment overseas for serious burns to her face.
Twenty one students and one teacher are coming up for court charges this week following the violence that left several shops and offices with broken windows and other expensive damages.
The assistant Commissioner of Police, Papali’i Li’o Masepa’u told Samoalivenews.com of the serious turn of events, in this brief video interview.

Talofa'e i le atunuu!
written by Jack, May 01, 2008
It is not the number of police officers that counts but how effective they perform in their line of duty. This riot is a testament to our nation that we have a police force that needs a lot of help in training and support. Need money to train the police force. Need equipment for their physical fitness so they can catchup with the younger generation...And most of all...Please stop giving them food, beer, ice cream, free rides and money when you get a ticket. We the public is to blame for our police force ineffectiveness because we feed them too much and tame them to look the other way instead of upholding the law.
