World Court Is Only Extradition Doorway From Samoa - Unasa PDF Print E-mail
Written by Pio Sioa

Minister of Justice Unasa Mesi.

Anyone wishing to extradite Samoan citizens to the United States to stand trial in court has to come through the ‘proper doorway’, or the door is slammed in their faces by the Minister of Justice.
This sums up pretty much the extent of what any legal authority or anyone else from the US, keen to secure the extradition of Samoan nationals from Samoa, can expect from the Justice Minister, Unasa Mesi.
As far as he is concerned, the ‘proper doorway’ is for the interested party or parties to apply directly to the World Court in The Hague, Netherlands, to rule in their favour.
The news organization AAP reported last week that the Minister of Justice has continued to thwart attempts by US authorities, to secure the extradition of two Samoans to stand trial, on charges linked to the Focus on Children adoption scheme a few years ago.
Julie Tuiletufuga and Tagaloa Ieti are reportedly wanted by the US Courts to answer to accusations about their involvement with the American based adoption agency.
“I want to make this clear first, so far the only people who have shown interest in the issue, and have asked me about it is the media, but even if there were any official requests from the US it is not going to be granted,” Unasa says.
“The problem is they are going about it the wrong way, but nobody asks me, they think they are smarter than me.

“If there is any official request it means nothing here in Samoa, they have to go to the World Court who will in turn petition us.
“As the Minister of Justice any such petition comes to me first before it is passed on to the Chief Justice to rule whether to proceed with any extradition or not, that is the appropriate way to proceed on this issue.”
Minister Unasa compared Samoa’s stance to what the Americans are doing in the case of the Associate Minister, Joe Keil.
“We are frustrating ourselves here complaining about his situation but there is legally nothing we can do to bring him home, the US is doing as they wish, and that is no different to what we are doing ourselves too with this call for extradition.”
The Minister reassured however that the extradition issue should have no direct impact on the Joe Keil case.
“To my understanding so far this is an issue that the media raised, it should not have anything to do with Joe’s case.”

Interesting, and they want Joe Keil to come back to Samoa to await his trial in the US?
bad timing for this information to surface....smilies/sad.gif

One would now think that Samoa is a safe-haven for criminals. And its not for a court to decide or a board of some kind, but one mans decision.

Hmmm.....pay back? There's a place with almost similar policies called "Mexico". It's a place to run to because it's a "SAFE ZONE" for criminals. If you think this will solve your problem then you better beef up your police department because you have another thing coming.

Go Unasa Mesi
written by Fasiso'o, November 16, 2008
The only criminal elements who will try to find safe refuge in Samoa and turn it into a Mexico are SamoanAmericans.
Like the song says, friends for the good times and brother you run to for help when in times of trouble.
We've seen and heard you land at Faleolo Airport and start loudmouthing to make yourself appreciated as a patriotic Samoan, when all you're doing is turn yourself into a fe'e to survive.
A word of advise, you'd be better off going to a rellie in American Samoa. But wait a minute the big bad federal officers will simply turn up in Pago and cuff your arse back to the mainland- heh hehheh.
We can offer you refuge but we don't want you here where we Samoans do whatever the hell we want. See that is the beauty of being truly free.
We can shut the door on your face like our man Unasa Mesi has done.
Stay there and continue to make believe you're Americans...heh heh heh (laughing myself silly)

Go back to school girl, and try to understand that Samoa is a Sovereign country, just like america. our elected ministers or congressman as you guys called it have the power to veto any decision. You really should have known that already but judging by what you write you don't know anything about politics

This is why I live here and you're there. If you're still burning-up about my comment months ago about the officer who refused to search a bag his dog hit on at the airport, then good, atleast it's embedded in your head and maybe the next time you're at the airport you'll care to notice it.

"FREEDOM" and "Do whatever the hell we want", well, hmm.......lets see....nah..... I won't go there . You haven't been anywhere else LONG ENOUGH to really know what freedom is.

"Soverign country JUST LIKE AMERICA".......hmm......don't know about that one either but I'll take your word for it.

And please.......no more laughing yourself silly or "Pulou ma le povi".

Mr. Keil will be vindicated in his efforts to prove himself innocent of any charges. Its the wording of the article that lead me to my first thought. Breathe in, breathe out. Your hate for me has clouded your reading capabilities. Lets try to not be so emotional about others opinions. We have been welcomed to this news site to post comments and opinions about different news topics. If you knew me personally, you would probably enjoy my company, as I do not have time for hate and I only surround myself with positive people no matter what side of the spectrum. I know that you are both good christians and law-abiding citizens, as I know many of our Samoan people are.

if your still referring to the loans from china, then your living in the past and do take my word for it, Sovereign Country. you must think that the life your living where you at is not on borrowed funds, please....

thats the beauty of globalisation, when America is rich everyone is rich, when their broke, were all broke. why do you think were in a recession, because every nation these days are dependent on each other, its why we sign free trade aggreements, so our products are cheaper to sell in your country and that we might make a profit...... but really globalisation is wrong!!!!

and for Joe Keil well peace be with him and his fam bam. just stop being so negative about Samoa, if you are a proud samoan then STAND UP and let it be known, rather than coming on this site and discredit everything that Samoa is working for, unless your from American Samoa which is a country that wants to be free but can't. no that is not a country like the Independent State of Samoa, ...............choohoo smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/cheesy.gif smilies/cheesy.gif

World Court
written by Plato, November 18, 2008
I wonder if the world court existed back in the 1980s and whether they authorized the arrest of Manuel Noriega from his country of Panama..hhhmmm. just wondering..

Globalization is wrong??? LOL!
Agreements between nations
written by Plato, November 18, 2008
I'm not sure if Samoa has an EXTRADITION AGREEMENT with the U. S. but this is all thats needed to turn over criminals wanted by a signer country that are in the other signer country. So criminals that are wanted in Samoa
and living in the U S. will be turned over to Samoa for prosecution. If there is such a treaty between samoa and the U S, then Mr Unasa may be wrong. I think the World Court in the Hague is for crimes of huge magnitude committed against peoples as in times of war.
Unless of course, there's a hidden reason why he wants to protect the criminals..

Samoangal funny how many people see how you always try to put your country down. Someday you will be born an American citizen and no one will bother you again. But for now you were truly born in SAVA'II. SO stop trying to be a comedian in here. lol lol .............................
Why Savaii Tango?
written by Vao, November 20, 2008
Watch it Tango - Savaii does not spawn goofy offsprings like SamoaGal. The poor girl has gone loco not global...there's a difference you know and nothing to do with Savaii.
Gorging yourself on American junk food can do that to people - Samoan Gal is now a junk head.
Blaming Savaii for stuffing yourself silly is so unfair - totally. Poor SGal.
Mmmmwwhaa SamoanGal (No kiss for you Tango ..you were so mean to Savaii and to SamoanGal)
Globalization??
written by Plato, November 20, 2008
don't really know what youre referring to, but The world economy is really based on the economy of the country with the strongest economy. Thats why when the US economy sucks, everybodys elses economy sucks soon after lol.
When the price of oil went out of control, guess what, between you me and the wall, I believe the economic mess the whole world is in right now was deliberately caused to bring the oil prices down..lol when oil prices are where they want it, watch the U S economy will rapidly turn around. you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out LOL.

Don't hate Tango!
written by jon, November 22, 2008
I don't see Samoagal made any negtive comments about beautiful Samoa or putting Samoa down. She is simply providing her opinion as everyone else in this fourm. Don't hate her for expressing her opinion, or you must have not have been happy with your personal situation at the moment for such an attack. O au o le amo popo and very proud of it ever since i was a kid. Having said that, i treassured those memories and the same memories motivated me to have worked hard and gained a better life for me and my family. By no mean i agree with everything's going on back in our beautiful country, but it's a place where i learned the value of hard work, dedication and persistant. Just because we disagreed with some of the government decisions going on back home doesn't mean we don't care about our country, because we do. We want the best for our families and any decision by government that could affect their livehood and well being of our families and villages affect all of us whether anyone disagree with me or not. So, easy up on poor Samoagal as she is concerned about her family and our country as i do. Date hate but appreciate! Maniua Samoa all over the world!

Sorry you couldn't hag the life in Samoa because you were not educated enough to hag it and as far voting brother I came to texas to check my business out there oh by the way look me up (tropical Smothie) and I voted. That's right born citizen 19 years old and own a 2 tropical smoothie. Live in Samoa because my grandmother hate the lifestyle in America. I hate people who come from samoa and forgot what it is like and all of a sudden they act like they were born citizen. Kalofae jealous is the word you use uso becareful that attitude is going to land you on welfare. I work in Samoa at aggie look me up I'll hook you up with a faleo'o. I am getting ready to launch another tropical smoothie in San Diego at Point Loma stop by and have a meal on me for free. Aua e laititi ae maini. Don't talk about Samoa like you didn't eat a popo from Samoa. JON Thank you for expressing the faipopo I shall reward you with UmU lol............
19 years old
written by Plato, November 23, 2008
I was born in Samoa and I too have been there and done that. Ate lots of popo and planted lots of taro. You must have been lucky to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth, not like most of us that has to make it on our own. you know hand me down is not the same as doing it your self. You work at Aggie?.. huh I stay at Aggies resort every time I come to Samoa. I thought you were mr educated at 19.. give me a break son. you haven't lived yet. and going on welfare with my attitude, well kinda too late for me, I've already retired twice son. One of the reasons why you have to freedom to run your mouth and do what you do is for people like me who fought and made sure you have the freedom to run your mouth like you do. all I do now is play golf everyday, so if Aggie is nice enough to give you time off, come play a round of golf with me, I'll pay for you.
But like I said, becareful what you a real Samoan, A REAL SAMOAN might take exception to your Mr American born citizen. in my country...

Congratulations on your success Tivo. I know your family is very proud of you. I dont know where the idea that I was born in Samoa or American Samoa came from but I am first generation born in the US. Yes there are alot of us here that are natural born citizens. Im afraid there was some confusion in some of these posts.

Hey Plato, winter is nipping at our heels here in Utah and no more golfing for us. But a trip to Cali will fix that...lol ...whats your handi? My husband is an avid golfer and makes every excuse to head out west only to hear someone yell "FORE" lol...

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I'll pay for your golf, I don't play with people who shoot 90 I play for skins and if you got skill I just might take you up on that offer. Don't talk to me about freedom, My father died 4 years ago fighting for my freedom and your freedom that you seem to be enjoying. Don't try to alienate me in Samoa because I don't walk around here and deny the life in America like some samoans who go to America got more things than the people here in Samoa and all you people complain about is how dirty it is in Samoa, and if you are not one of them then let me and Samoangal bring our point across, You have not been participating long enough to know the depth of my point to her. Oh and the hand me down thing what Samoan wouldn't want a hand me down? I will suceed in life I will make it happen, Yes I am 19, Grandmother first , people after, money last. I am not on vacation in Samoa my mission here is to get as much in life from my grandmother and about Samoa. When her time comes I hope she leaves me ae malie le loko and her blessings will be made known. You seem to be jumping into conclusion for someone whom already walk 55 or so miles in life and make comments that distraut a clear vision. Well anyway if you come to Samoa again I'll take you up on 18hole or maybe twilite, and if you can't find me at the hotel I am volunteering at Dr leao private practice le Va'a o fonoti. Peace..........lol.................lol................

I don't understand what your point is to Tivo!!!!!!!!!!!! TIVO is that guy from lufilufi Mccan trying to launch Allan's water into your corporaton? I came to Texas to the Katina's show and I heard about a Samoan owning a business. We manage to come and look we only saw beautiful young Samoan Girls working there. I was a proud Samoan just knowing another Samoan can facilitate and manage life here in America.

Hey man, I'm sorry to hear about your father, but rest assure that I paid for my own freedom as well as a few other folks. I fought from Viet Nam to desert storm and everything in between. not support, front line grunt.
yes, went all the way to the top in the enlisted ranks. I didn't have to but I wanted to pay my dues if I was going to live here and raise my family. retired and retired again from another civilian job, so if youre flaunting money, youre not going to impress me, So you see I'm enjoying my freedom that I paid for with blood sweat and tears. But a 19 year old bragging about money, huh, I had already figured it out. either you sell drugs, stole it, or someone ha to die for it. Now I see where you got your money from... only wish someone didn't have to die for it..
"All you people complain how dirty Samoa is"? Where the heck are you talking about? you'd better watch what you say in Samoa, Samoans are not synonymous with welfare my friend. and "Hand me down" I was talking about money handed down to you.
As for you miss Prichard,"Water into my corporation?" what the heck are you talking about? LOL are you on drugs? and youre proud to hear a Samoan owning a business? well me too. I'm very proud of anyone getting ahead. I know a lot of Samoans who own businesses.
Any ways Tivo, I guess you can't play with me then, I shoot a bit less that 90 on a good day. but like I said, I play golf everyday and I know my game will improve. Next time I come to Samoa, I will take you up on it. I play for fun, don't want to take any of your money. lol
