Young man fined for assaulting woman

Presiding Judge, Vaepule Vaemoa Vaai, warned a 21 year old about the dangers of not being able to take control of yourself when you are drunk. This comes after this 21 year old was convicted for causing actual bodily harm to a female from Leauvaa. The incident which took place at a village store in Leauvaa on the 10th October 2007, was reported to Police by the victim after she was verbally and physically abused by the accused. It is reported that on the night of the incident the accused heard her little brother crying outside P Timos shop at Leauvaa where she had worked. She discovered that it was the accused that had made her little brother cry and when she had questioned the accused about why he had done this, he replied to her in foul language and punched her chest, and she fell to the ground. The victim reported the incident to police however she requested that the charges be revoked because the accused had already apologized to her, and they have mended their differences. However Judge Vaepule still ordered the accused to pay $200.00 or face 6 weeks imprisonment. Judge Vaepule also warned the accused of the increasing number of alcohol related crimes and the importance of being able to control yourself when drunk. Judge Vaepule also took the fact that it was a female he had caused actual bodily harm to, and this was an aggravating factor.
