Afioga Tuilimu Tile Mose with 11-year-old son, Gary
Taunting remarks by the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, about a man who appeared on a television road switch protest promotion, has drawn an angry response from the man himself.
PM Tuilaepa was delivering the anniversary address for his Government HRPP Party on Friday when he referred to 59 year old Tuilimu Tile Mose of Nuusuatialemanu Safata and Matautu-Falealili, as the old man who had been misled and made a fool of .
An upset Tuilimu reacted to the PM ‘s remarks to the local media.
"I and my family are very sad and upset by what the Prime Minister said about me. Prime Minister - I am not sick or an old fool,” says Tuilimu.
“I was born in Samoa and lived in Auckland New Zealand for 40 years. In my 40 years in New Zealand, I worked in insurance and real estate.
“I am a qualified fitter and welder. I have spent my life to educate my children. I have one son who is a lawyer in Manukau, another who will be a qualified doctor at the end of this year. I have a daughter who is a senior bank officer with Westpac in Auckland and another daughter who is a private investigator at the ASB Bank in Auckland.
“I have helped Samoa by sending money home for many many years.
“Prime Minister – no body made me go on television. Samoa is a free country and I went on the television because I wanted to. Nobody put words in my mouth and I believe what I said because I can see that the Government's decision is going to affect tourism and put tourists at a big risk from car crashes – it is the wrong decision for Samoa. Also, family and my children’s lives should not be put at risk.
I am very disappointed and upset because I believe that the leader of our country should not call people old fools or sick just because they express an opinion – even if it is different to the Prime Minister's opinion. This is the first time anyone has said this about me and to be called this by the Prime Minister of my country is very upsetting. I have an opinion and I support our march on Monday 100%. You cannot change my mind because this is going to affect the whole country, and I love my country.

maybe prime minister is sick....
written by concerned citizen, December 16, 2007
For a leader of a country to make such a statement to a hard working citizen is just not on. The PM owes you an apology and perhaps your village. Our PM is out of his mind and maybe his popularity within his own party has given him that right to criticise citizens of Samoa. Now that he knows who you are and what you have done for Samoa, what is he to say about that?

Mr PM, you can only be personal and criticise your own colleagues when you are in parliament but not the members of the public...
thanks
