The Australian Minister for Home Affairs Hon. Bob Debus has cast off reports from Fiji about the relocation of the Transnational Crime Coordination Centre (PTCCC) from Fiji to Samoa.
The Centre which was first opened in Fiji in 2004 was relocated to Samoa and opened this week.
According to a report by the Fiji Times, the Fiji Police Force says Australia “should have known better because Fiji is the hub of the Pacific.”
A Spokesperson for Fiji Police Ema Mua said political instability in Fiji should not affect the work of the centre and the Fiji Police Force has proven they could carry out their duties under the circumstances.
In an interview with Debus in Samoa, Newsline asked the Minister if he wished to comment on the complaint by Fiji.
“No, not really, the decision to move the Centre is a mutual decision by nations of the Pacific,” Debus told Newsline.
“I think it is has obviously been a satisfactory location from the point of view of geography, from the point of view of the best interest of people throughout the Pacific,” the Minister said.
According to Debus Samoa was chosen as a result of assessment made by Commissioners of Police around the Pacific.
He said it was chosen on the merits that Samoa is a stable place, and because it is well situated geographically.
“It is a very good place to bring people from around the Pacific,” Debus said.

written by 101% Samoan, June 14, 2008
Last year I visited Samoa.... and I keep asking myself what the fuzz is all about.... that the Country is all f......ed up!!! because of this Government bullshit!!!....bla bla bla!!!! And then to hear such news and to actually see the development of our country.... I say all of you who said all these bullshit!!! about our present leaders really did a good job in turning our minds upside down. Let us stand behind our leaders. Remember, "We Get the Government We Deserve."
