Former International Court Judge Tipped For SG

The former International Criminal Court Judge, Tuiloma Neroni Slade has been tipped to be the next Secretary General for the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. The Samoan government is reported to have promoted the candidacy of Tuiloma for the top regional position following the resignation Greg Urwin earlier this month on medical grounds. Tuiloma Neroni Slade was also a former Ambassador for Samoa to the United Nations and the USA during 1993-2003 after serving at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London as a top legal adviser to the Commownealth countries. Tuiloma Neroni Slade has had extensive experience in the region when he was Attorney General for Samoa up to 1982. He was also the first Chairman of the Pacific Forum Line.He has also been involved in a number of international meetings representing the Small Island States in recent years A final decision of the Forum Leaders on the appointment of a Secretary General will be made in Niue in August 2008.A number of other candidates for the position are expected to be promoted by other Forum countries.
