Forwards coach John Wells believes the turning point in England's World Cup campaign came when they were embattled on their own try-line in the pool match against Samoa, desperately defending a narrow 26-22 lead
The forwards coach for England in their build up to the finals has told the media that the game against the Manu Samoa was the most critical time on their Rugby World Cup campaign. ``As a group we keep referring back to a moment in that match against Samoa. We were on our own line, we were being battered. Samoa had their tails up. ``But we came out of it. We went away to score a drop goal and a penalty which took the score to 32-22. For me that was a defining moment in the competition. ``It could so easily have gone the other way and it didn't. That alone gave the guys a lot of confidence and self-belief." The two teams (England and South Africa) in the 2007 Rugby World Cup finals were in the same pool of "death" with Samoa.Tonga and USA
