The preparations of the Archery Association for the upcoming South Pacific Games is at risk of falling into a rut without the kind of Competition needed to provide real challenge for their local players. Maletino Teofilo the Competition Manager of the Archery Association believed that their trainings are in good condition, players are improving immensely, but the lack of real competitions the players will looe focus on their skills and knowledge of playing the game.

Their final squad is currently selected from our own local players. “There will be no overseas players representing Archery in the South Pacific Games, this is a good sign”. Said Teofilo.

However, in the mean time, the archery association are able to do small competitions amongst their players in order for them to maintain their knowledge and their personal skills.

These competitions are weekly, and the squad have been training for more than two years now, and have trainings everyday.

The final players will be announcing next week; they are going to elect them according to their performances in their weekly competition.

A professional Archery player Joe which is one of the Olympics medalist from China is currently coaching the squad for more than a year now.

“A lot of improvement in our local players ever since Joe manage to coach their squad” said Teofilo.

The archery squad were competing in two outing competition.

First was the Oceania Last year and our own Andrew Ah Liki won a medal, so they believe that he is definitely a medal prospect in the South Pacific Games.

They also participated in the National Championship which held in New Zealand.

These national competitions has a great help in their team regarding their game skills and tactics.

When asked about their expectations for the South Pacific Games Teofilo says “They got the best, but not too optimist about it, best to the Pacific, then definitely that will be the best”
