Two months after the South Pacific Games, the Fijian star swimmer, Caroline Pickering has been told that her record times in Apia do not count towards qualifying for the 2008 Beijing Olympics

The Amateur Fijian Swimming Federation have told the media that the Samoa Swimming Federation failed to apply to FINA (International Amateur Swimming Federation) have the recent 2007 South Pacific Games in Apia as the official qualifying event for the 2008 Olympics contrary to the announcements made before the countries came to Apia Samoa

Although Caroline Pickering met the qualifying times for the 2008 Olympic games, the slip up by the Samoa Swimming Federation has made the Fijians disappointed about the organisation of the South Pacific Games.

After the South Pacific Games, the Samoa Swimming Federation has changed its officers with the Prime Minister, Hon Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi coming in as President.
