 Ele Opeloge Shows Why She Will Be The First Athlete From Samoa to Win An Olympic Medal

At the recent final trials for selection of the Samoan weighlifting team Ele Opleloge made a strong statement that she is destined for greater world honours in weightlifting.Ele Opeloge went on to break the Commonwealth and Oceania clean and jerk record as she became the leading medal contender in the Samoan team of weighlifters.

The President of the Samoa Weightlifting Federation, Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork , announced after the trials the official team for the 2007 South Pacific Games.

In the women’s: 58kg Urima Tyrell, 63kg Vanessa Salimu, 69kg Mary Opeloge & Manu Ah Kuoi, 75kg Tieresa Atoniu and 75+kg Ele Opeloge

The mens team is as follows: 56kg Nevo Ioane and Lasalo Pesa, 69kg Tafito Perive, 85kg Uati Maposua, Tia Falesuani, 94kg Faavae Faauliuli and Jonathan Yoshida, 105kg Niusila Opeloge and Eleei Ilalio and 105+kg Tavita Tuumalii, Two of these lifters will be dropped the day before the South Pacific Games weightlifting competition starts.

Ele will be joined by her sister Mary Opeloge and her brother Niusila Opeloge in competing for the medals in the South Pacific Games. 

Ele will be seen alot more in the future world weightlifting tournaments if she keeps up her present acheivements.
