The Samoan Va'a Team has taken possession of some new equipment just in time for the South Pacific Games.

Last week twenty three new competition-grade paddles arrived in a shipment from Australia.  Previously team members have been using their personal paddles or training paddles during competitions but these new blades are expected to give the team a competitive edge.

The new equipment was funded by the South Pacific Games Authority and Xylo Blade Outrigger Essentials was commissioned to supply the paddles.   Xylo Blade is an Australian company that custom make outrigger canoe paddles to feature original designs and options.

Four steering paddles, eight x 9 ¼ inch blades that will be used by the women's team, eight x 10 ½  and three x 11 ½ inch blades that will be used by the men's team arrived in the shipment.   The teams commenced training with the new paddles as soon they arrived.

The South Pacific Games Va'a Regatta will commence with a blessing of the event on Monday 3rd September 2007 at 8.00am.
