Thousands of young school children wowed Delegations, Athletes, Officials, Tourists and the General Public at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies during the South Pacific Games.

Newsline spoke to Samoa College Student Stephen Leitupo about the preparations and excitement of being a part of the story telling.

After preparing for almost three weeks for the opening ceremonies Mr. Leitupo says it is something that he will remember for ever.

He had not performed in anything this big before, much like many of the other students, but says it was great and he is so glad he took part in it.

 The reason Mr. Leitupo decided to be a part of the celebrations was to represent Samoa College and to be with many of his friends who were also participating.

He explained that his highlight of the games was performing in both the ceremonies.

“It was great to be a part of it.”

However, he did manage to watch some of the sports, including the Basketball.

Mr. Leitupo has not had much dance experience before but he has performed for Youth Programmes at his church.

Preparations for the Closing Ceremony began after the opening had taken place and lasted a week.

Other schools that were involved in the Ceremonies included Avele College, Saint Mary’s College, Lefifi College and Malaufou College.
