Samoa Tennis Star, Marvin Soonalole aged 20 from Alamagoto, has been vigorously training since 2005 for the up coming South Pacific Games beginning next month [August].

Marvin has been determinedly preparing for the last couple of months; usual training routines are twice a day, six times a week.

“I feel I am both mentally and physically ready for the up coming games and I just can’t wait to bring all my hard training onto the court,” says Marvin.

Marvin believes that his strongest opposition judging from previous encounters would most probably be from New Caledonia, Tahiti and from some strong players from the Pacific.

Marvin is currently under taking a Tennis scholarship based in Hawaii, where he is attending Brigham Young University, studying Exercise and Sports Science.

When asked if he was ready for the SPG challenge, he was very optimistic and said, “The strongest strength I believe I can bring to my tournaments is confidence in me and in my training.”

“I also wish to be a good ambassador for Samoa by showing great sportsmanship to my fellow team mates through encouragement”

“I hope to perform to the best of my ability and to live to my expectations; my targeted goal for the games is the same as all our athletes and that is to bring home the gold.”

Apart from tennis, Marvin wishes to continue his education and to pursue his goal in becoming a professional tennis player.

His advice to other young aspiring tennis players is to commit yourself to the game, and to be passionate about what you hope to achieve.

“In order to be good in any kind of sport you need to be devoted to the game and to just enjoy yourself when ever you play, as well as believe and trust in the Lord our God.”
