Bank Removes Opeloge Promotional Billboard in Samoa

TAKEN DOWN : Niusila Opeloge billboard that was removed by the ANZ Bank last night. The large billboard fronting the Beach Road side of the ANZ Bank of multi-gold medalist weightlifter, Niusila Opeloge was taken down last night, but according to the acting General Manager, Mr. Bernard Morton it was something they had planned weeks ago. “The billboard were put up there as part of the banks South Pacific Games promotions, and we had planned weeks ago to take it down, but have not come around to doing it,” Morton told Newsline in a telephone interview yesterday. Niusila Opeloge was tested positive by the International Weightlifting Association of taking a banned substance during last year’s world championship at the Faleata Gymnasium. His success made him a national role model and featured prominently as on the ANZ Bank billboards as one of the athletes . Morton however denied the positive drug testing has anything to do with taking the billboards down. “We don’t know anything about what happened to him (Opeloge),” the acting General Manager added.
