UNMOVING : Coach Tuala sticks to Manu Samoa rebuilding game plan .

Critics maybe howling at the weekend loss by the Manu Samoa to Fiji, but it is not registering on Coach Tuala and his coaching staff.
The Manu Samoa is on a rebuilding mission and it is done according to a whole new longterm game plan Coach Tuala has laid out to mold the players into a winning combination – there will be no deviation.
“Give us time,” a defiant Coach Tuala says.
“We are trying to develop a playing culture that we know will suit our players, and for the Manu Samoa to be consistent with their performance,” he says.
“We said in the beginning that we are doing something new and we will continue to work on that through trial and experiment until we have achieved that.”
The Manu Samoa came together as a team about a week before the start of their Pacific Nations Campaign in the home away game last weekend against the Flying Fijians.

It was the first time the players has played together as a team and provided the coaching staff and important opportunity to see where the team how to improve.
“Our players are drawn from different parts of the rugby world where they are coached to play according to different patterns and combinations.
“Coaching them to play according to how we want them to play for the Manu Samoa cannot be done in 5 days or in one or two games.
‘We have taken the initiative by trying out something new and that doesn’t mean it will work immediately. It’s no different from a student studying for an important exam for a week who panics during the exam and end up failing,” Coach Tuala says in reference to the weekend results.
The loss to Fiji was blamed on lack of combination and the young players panicking under pressure, giving way to mistakes that ended in tries for the home side.
The Manu Samoa tried to make a comeback in the second half and from the coaching perspective three tries went begging that could have turned the game as Fiji ran out of puff.
“Fiji was ripe for the taking in the second half but again our inexperience prevented that from happening,” Coach Tuala continued.
Team morale is high despite the loss, according to Coach Tuala.
Win or lose against the strong Australian A side this Saturday, will not deter the Manu Samoa from staying with how the coaching staff wants them to play.
“There will be a few changes from the team that played in Fiji. We are looking to add a bit of experience to the lineup we have to improve on our winning combination.”
The standard of rugby the Australia A team will take into the game on Saturday is not lost on Coach Tuala, but he promises to select a combination that he believes can win the game.
“ These are Wallaby players who have been playing Super 14 rugby, so we know how strong they are, but we are going in there to play our game the way we want to. If we can do it right we will win.”
The international season for the Manu Samoa after the Pacific Nations Cup will climax in September with a test match against a New Zealand All Blacks that is also rebuilding.
While the Pacific Nations Cup will offer the Manu Samoa an ideal build up for its young squad, the international against the All Blacks will be the yard stick to measure where they are at in their first season.
The 2011 World Cup is the ultimate goal and Coach Tuala and his coaching team are fully committed to the rebuilding process and of eventually producing a highly competitive Manu Samoa.
“When John Boe was coach he did it his way, so too did Michael Jones, it is our turn now and we are doing it our way.”

In short, don't expect a win
written by Robbie Deans, June 12, 2008
Don't expect a win in the next few weeks, is what he is saying. Palamo is playing down all expectations of a win again Australia A. As far as i'm concerned he can't use this excuse for much longer. We are all expecting some sort of improvement; losing by a big margin without scoring any tries is not going to go down well with any Manu fans, regardless of the good opposition that is Aus A.

Tuilagi, Fa'osiliva, Treviranus, Mai, Lui, and Sapolu must be selected in this week's team if we are to have any success- no more mucking around coach, this is a home game.
Moving forward
written by Samasoni Nafatali, June 12, 2008
Good on you Tuala for the courage. It takes a lot of guts to try something new when the fans' expectations reach maximum height, especially when some prediction was made before the game. I thought the result could have been the evidence of fitness issue, but the stats prove otherwise. Having the Fiji scoring all their points in the first half and our boys scoring all theirs in the last half says something about the nerves, which is good from the Manu's viewpoint. It means the Fijians were capitalising on the boys trying to settle the nerves. Most likely the new boys with lack of or no experience at this level finally found their feet on the ground in the second half. CEO Su'a Peter Schuster has stressed the importance of mental toughness, something generally lacking and it is a must in any game preparation. This ingredient of game preparation is essential to keep a positive focus as a game progresses. It can help the boys believe that they can win any game right till the bell goes. Why the other team wins is because they have prepared well. If both teams have the fitness, conditioning, mental toughness, skills and so on, then it is the team that has the faith in winning that will win. The boys need also to have a culture of team spirit and having fun. There is a fine line in getting serious but they must learn to relax, have fun and enjoy playing the game at any level. It's best not to make any prediction but let the boys do the talk on the field. All the best for the rest of the series and the future Tuala and the coaching team and the boys.
Development of the MANU
written by Locci, June 12, 2008
According to coach Tuala, the imoprtant key is development of the Manu Samoa for the 2011 RWC. So, in essence, what Coach Palaamo is really saying is: We are a young team, true. We are in a developing stage, true. We(coaching staff) haven't had time to implement our playing system/strategy/plan/tactics. true. It will take (a whole lot of) time before we begin to see any good results. We will not win this Saturday! We will be blown to pieces be the Wallaby-B-side before our very eyes! In fact, we will not win any PNC games this year! AND our season...our 2008 campaign will (definitely) end with a humiliating crush by the AB come September...The bottom line... Let's now look forward to 2009, please.
New Change Is Good
written by Manu Fan, June 12, 2008
I think Niko Palamo is on the right track. What the fans thinks is not important right now. I think its about time for new change for the Manu Samoa. Manu Samoa use to be feared by other teams because of their toughness and competitive, now its like the worse team in the rugby world. I think what the coach is doing is a good change. The most important thing for the players is to prepared mentally and physically.

GOOD ON YOU TUALA! AS THEY SAY ROME WAS'NT BUILT IN A DAY SO WE JUST HAVE TO BE PATIENT. WE HAVE ALOT OF YOUNG PLAYERS THAT NEED TIME AND EXPERIENCE SO I'M RIGHT BEHIND WHAT THE COACHING STAFF ARE TRYING TO ACHIEVE. SOMETIMES WE SAMOANS EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM OUR MANU WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE BIGGER PICTURE OF THINGS. GIVE EVERYONE INVOLVED A CHANCE, ALOT OF PEOPLE WANTED CHANGE IN NEW PLAYERS,NEW COACHES THEN AFTER WE LOSE ONE GAME THEY'RE CALLING FOR HEADS TO BE ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK ALREADY. ( I GAN'T BELEV IT!!!) GEE I HAVE'NT HEARD MUCH COMPLAINING NOW ABOUT OUR SEVENS COACH RUDOLPH MOORS SINCE OUR SEVENS TEAM WON THE LONDON SEVENS HUH'. BUT BEFORE THAT PEOPLE WERE SCREAMING TO BRING BACK FUIMAONO. C'MON PEOPLE RELAX, CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR BOYS AND THE COACH, I MYSELF SEE A BRIGHT FUTURE IN OUR TEAM AND OUR COACH. ANYWAY IF OUR BOYS IN BLUE ARE'NT WINNING THEN SUPPORT THE OTHER SAMOAN INTERNATIONAL TEAM THAT WE HAVE UMM I THINK THE'RE CALLED THE "ALL BLACKS". (PS- DID ANYONE ELSE FIND IT FUNNY THAT IN THE ALL BLACKS GAME AGAINST IRELAND LAST SATURDAY THAT THEY HAD NO MAORIS TO LEAD THE HAKA?? SE MALO KEVIN MEALAMU, KUA CHE BRO LE USO SOLE'). GO THE MANU ALWAYS RIGHT BEHIND YOU HERE FROM THE THOUSANDS OF SCREAMING HAMOS IN THE LAND DOWNUNDER.

Just want to keep our boys up and get ready for their next test, to see if they got some combination work out. Coach Palamo, stick with your game plan and I know you can do it. I believe you will raise that team on Saturday and all the complain will be slow down. Manu boys!!! old or new selected one, all we want is your taalo faatamalii, show your guts and courage to be a real fighter, if you win, remember your new game plan has to be carry on, if you lost, rememeber your new game plan has to be practice until it makes perfect. You guys are new to each other so come on boys in blue!!! you can do it !!! forget about all the nonsense complain...show them on Saturday how worth and important of what you wearing that Manu Samoa jersey. Good luck to you all and to our new coach. God bless the new Manu Samoa team....you can do it! you can do it! you can do it! you can do it!!!!!!!!

I think the local boys will have every motivation to perform well on Apia Park. Home ground, home game. No more excuses about nerves. Leave the nerves in Lautoka. The boys need to lift for this one. Even if we lose, I just hope the tight five are competitive in the set-pieces and at least win all their own possession (wouldn't mind stealing a lot of Australia's possession as well, but babysteps first). I also hope that the loosies are the first to the ruck-ball most of the time, and that the backline can draw and pass, and put the wings away. Too many centres want to go by themselves and be the hero, when their jobs are really to put their wings into space.

Above all, I hope that the senior players lead the communication in defence. 80% of defence is communication. Talking with the people inside and outside of you so that everyone is in the correct position. Sounds easy, but is quite hard to do when players are flying all over the place and the opposition is attacking from all sorts of angles in the heat of the battle. The players really need to talk it up on defence so everyone moves up together and cuts down space for the Australians to run. Fiji had too much room to move last week. Too many players staying on the line, waiting for the attack to come to them, instead of going up and breaking down Delasau's and his mates space.
whatever ways????

Man everybody who use the phrase rome wasnt built in a day throw that one in the rubbish cause thats what all this talk of rebuilding is its rubbish. If you wanna rebuild the team use our professionals and rebuild with them and slowly bring up our inexpreince players through a b squad cause these boys are just been throwin in there and getting their confidence blowin to bits. We have so many talented players playing in top rugby teams who are not part of this squad you cant use the crap like they have no heart to perform in not picking them good coaches bring out the best in players these players play well for their clubs but dont get it togeter when they wear the manu jersey whys dat? dont put all the blame on the players the coaching staff have a lot to answer for. Palamo should of selected the best that samoa has to offer and try bring out the best of them with his coaching team instead of trying to be fiapoto an try to create something new for his own benefit cause at the end of the day losing by 35 to 40 plus doesnt help rebuild any team it just destroys it this is the professional era of rugby were in not ameteur.

Good luck with the game boys...hope your coaching team have got their act together. At the end of it all its you on the field that will bear the brunt of the community's displeasure. No one will remember who the efffinn coach was; surely he's there to add something to his CV....so play for the game, for yr grandmother & father & SAMOA. We love U long time

Faamalo Coach, for all the years we had the 7 's we never had success like the last yaer and this year.
It was the decission to built from with in and have a co-hersive team that players play together for some time.
It took coach Titi Fuimaono 2 yrs to achive his goal. Therefore; let Tuala and his team have there go.
I believe we are on the rigth track, Ia manuia le MANU.

Manu Samoa a Development Team ?
written by Ola O, June 13, 2008
Our national team should not be used as a development platform for our players at any stage. Whoever gets picked to put on the Manu colors in any year should already have done his developing whether he's 19 or 36 !! Thats what club level , Under 21, and our other development teams are supposed do.

We have three years of international rugby games ahead before the world cup. Dont we want to win any of those matches? Shall we just go for the world cup 3 years away to showcase our rugby abilities and try and win it all so as to improve our world ranking of 13th? Some of these players may not even be around then .

Ok coaches and selectors lets be serious. The game agaisnt Fiji showed a lot of things that I can't help but throw back at you guys. Poor tackling, poor passing, players out of position, indecision and the inability to adjust when things are not working. If these are our best players at the peak of their game they dont need any further development to show some basic knowledge of the game.

Good luck with the reast of the season.
