Two former Manu 7s coaches congratulated and applauded the Manu performance in the Wellington Sevens saying that they deserved praise as they performed extraordinarily well.
Tuala Lepale Niko Palamo and Lalomaiava Taufusi Salesa both coached the Manu Sevens respectively in previous years.
Tuala now the Head Coach for the Manu Samoa side says that it was unfortunate that they did not win the finals but should be congratulated for getting that far.
“It was a tough road to the finals, there were a few unfortunate calls but we just have to accept the referees decision,” says Tuala.
He congratulates Coach Galumalemana Rudolph Moors and the boys because he is certain that they have done a favour for Samoa.
“They have set there goals and given us all a road to follow.”
Lilomaiava, the coach that lead the Manu Sevens to victory in Hong Kong also pointed out that there were a few lapses that made us end up as second best.
“We did not do well in Day 2, however our performance did elevate us to fourth place. This is a big step forward our playing in Wellington when compared to our performance in Dubai and Georgia. I wish them well for San Diego,” says Lilomaiava.
Former Manu Samoa coach and Chief Executive Officer of Samoa Rugby Union Sua Peter Schuster also added that the last penalty was uncalled for.
“That was the only disappointment,” says Sua.
“We (SRU) have already informed the International Rugby Union of what we thought of the referees decision, not to change the decision or forfeit the win but clarify the rules for the sake of the viewers.”
He says that the Manu Sevens team did perform at a very high standard compared to other teams.
Sua says they have sent the boys messages congratulating them but maintains that they are not to highly praised incase they lose their momentum in winning.
He adds that the Samoan side were able to disrupt a lot of scrums and line outs which was a promising sign that Samoan rugby is headed down the right path.
