The IRB Rugby World Cup Oceania Qualifiers will start tomorrow at Apia Park. This will be the first IRB World Cup Qualifiers to be hosted by Samoa.

The Manu Samoa 7s will be competing against Tonga, Papua New Guinea, Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Niue and Tahiti in the men’s event,. The Manu Sina will compete against New Zealand, Australia, Fiji, Samoa and Niue in their bid to qualify for the first ever RWC Sevens women’s competition.

The Manu Samoa 7s coach Galumalemana Rudolf Moors is taking this qualifying tournament seriously despite his team being ranked third in the World at present following the 2007/2008 IRB 7s circuit. The Manu Samoa 7s is expected to qualify this weekend

The Manu Sina on the hand has a very difficult task ahead this weekend. There are only two womens teams from the oceania region to play at the World Cup later this year. Therefore the Manu Sina has to be in the top two from its pool which includes NZ, Australia and Fiji.

The Manu Sina squad includes
Leute Mataipule Tuugamusu, Maria Akenese Taimalelagi, Anna Schuster, Amanda Cahill, Tumaia Manaia Iopu, Gabrielle Apelu, Seifono Misili, Tasmania Samuelu, Filoi Eneliko, Rowena Faaiuaso, Ester Noeleen Fualava, Bella Irene Milo, Merina Malatai, Simeatu Lemana, Mele Leulua’iali’i, Iva Faaaloalo Talaga.

The Manu Sina will play against NZ in their first game on Friday

The Chairman of the Samoa Rugby Union , Hon Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi last night welcomed all the players at an official cocktail reception. Another reception by the Chairman will be on Saturday for the after match function.
