Children aged from 7 upwards have beaten adults in a recent swimming carnival held at the Aquatic centre in Faleata.

The swimming carnival was organized by the Tanifa Le Vai Swim Club and involved kids swimming against their swimming coaches, learn to swim instructors, parents and friends.

The carnival was held in the indoor pool at the Aquatic Centre and involved races over 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke as well as a final 4x50m freestyle relay. There was a great, fun atmosphere at the carnival with both the children and adults singing chants. The kids also won the best chant competition!

The carnival was organized to finish off the swim term with a fun event and also to introduce the children to swimming in a race meet.

Suzie Schuster, the coach at the Tanifa Le Vai Swim Club, said;
“It is great to see the children enjoying their swimming and having adults to race against was fun. They loved beating their coaches and parents! In the future I hope that more Samoan children can learn the life skill of swimming and come to enjoy this great sport.”

Suzie also said that the Tanifa Le Vai Swim Club wanted to officially thank the staff at the Aquatic Centre for all their help and support during the year.

The Tanifa Le Vai Swim Club is a swimming club registered with the Samoan Swimming Federation. The Tanifa Le Vai club offers a learn to swim program for children and adults as well as a development team for children who can already swim. The swim program will resume in the week commencing Monday 21 April. Interested parents and swimmers are encouraged to contact Suzie Schuster on 7768944.
