Bad weather cancels third leg

Manu Samoa sevens rep, Lolo Lui has been cleared to play in the Wellington Sevens this weekend despite serving a two week suspension from the Samoa Rugby Football Union.
Lui, a star from the Wellington event last year, copped the suspension after he was cited but the SRU judiciary committee two weeks ago while playing for his Moataa club in the Smokefree Youth 10-a-side tournament at St Joseph’s grounds in Alafua.
Lui’s suspension is expected to finish next Saturday, depending on the weather after the SRU canceled the games scheduled for yesterday.
The conditions of the suspension were for Lui not to play in any of the two 10s tournaments. If a tournament is cancelled that won’t count as a week of suspension.
If that was the case, the Lui could not be available for Wellington this weekend.
But according to Aiolupotea Lilomaiava Taufusi Salesa of the SRU, Lui’s suspension is only effective locally.
“It won’t affect national representation,” he said on Friday.
The Manu Samoa sevens team left today to prepare for the Wellington Sevens.
Coach Galumalemana Rudolf Moors told Newsline this week that his team was aware of the weight they are carrying as a team into this tournament.
“Being champions makes you the target of all the other teams,” Galumalemana said. “We have been preparing for it over the past couple of weeks and we’re hoping to go all the way in Wellington.”
Samoa did not fare up in the opening legs of the IRB Sevens Circuit but are expected to bounce back in Wellington and San Diego the following week.

With Lui now cleared to take part, things could be heading for the better for Galumalemana and his troops.
Let’s home for the best.
Meanwhile, Aiolupotea said the cancellation of last week’s third leg of the Smokefree 10s Rugby Tournament would have little effect on the union’s programme so far.
“The Savaii leg will still go ahead,” he said adding that they had to cancel yesterday’s games due to the floods.
