Alapasa Cordtz is making a come back in this year’s Wellington and San Diego Sevens tournaments after missing out last year. He’s seen here in action against South Africa
.

The Manu Samoa sevens team will have to play out of their skins if they are to successfully defend their title in Wellington next month.
Following their disappointing outings in the opening legs of the International Rugby Board Sevens Circuit in Dubai and George late last year, coach Galumalemana Rudolf Moors and his team have a lot of grounds to cover if they’re out to recapture the team’s form which saw them claiming the Wellington Sevens title and the big one in Hong Kong.
They came close to winning the overall title but only to lose out to New Zealand in the final legs in the United Kingdom.
Galumalemana said after his 12-man squad for Wellington and San Diego tournaments was announced last week that he’s aware of the importance of their next trips.
“We have been working extremely hard during our training camps,” he said. “We’re aware of our position so we really want to do well in the Wellington and San Diego.”

Three players will make their debut in the circuit. They are Esera Lauina, Meki Purcell and New Zealand based Solomona Silipa.
Also making a comeback in the fray is Marist flanker, Alapasa Cordtz.
His presence along side veterans Simaika Mikaele and Apelu Faauuga will be crucial up front while the coolness of Uale Mai and Lolo Lui will be a key in guiding young backline talents like Silipa and Solomona.
Galumalemana said he’s confident his team will stand up to the expectations of being defending champions in Wellington.
“It’s the best team we have selected from the training squad,” Galumalemana said. “Our aim is to try and defend our title in Wellington and play well in San Diego.”
He added the selecting process was not easy.
“During the trials this week I thought all the players put up a hand but we can only select 12.”
The team departs Auckland next weekend.
They took part in yesterday’s 10-aside rugby tournament held at St Joseph’s College Alafua.
