"Never Say Die' Coach of Savaii Loli Malu Satuu

Loli Malu Satuu, the Coach of the Lalomalava Rugby Club sevens
and fifteens will once again be bringing the “underdogs” of the Marist tournament this year.
Malu, who is well known for his persistence in the face of rugby adversity, is not giving up this year.
“We have to come, we have to represent Savaii,” he told Newsline over the weekend.
“We are prepared,” he said.
The Lalomalava team, made up of rugby players from the villages of Lalomalava, Vaisaulu and Safua will once again grace the tournament field with their presence.
The team is usually the lone representative from the big island, and although usually well prepared Coach Malu says field fright is the downfall of his team.
“These boys are used to playing on home ground with their family and friends watching, then when they see the stadium of Apia or the bigger crowds, they lose a bit of their confidence,” Malu said.
Asked if the presence of Serevi will be a factor he said: “Well, not really, it shouldn’t make a difference to our participation, if anything I want my boys to play on the same field as the Sevens star.”
Apart from his role as Coach for Lalomalava Rugby Club, Malu represents Savaii referees to the Samoa Rugby Union in Apia.
“Theres a whole lot of untapped talent on the island,” he told Newsline.
Malu is also currently being trained under the IRB coaching scheme in the region.
The Lalomalava boys will arrive in Apia, a day before the Marist Sevens is to begin.
Although they have won the Bowl several times, the team hopes to aim higher this time round.
