When it came time for Samoa’s welcome, Chef de Mission, Seb Kohlhase proudly walked the red carpet and greeted the village mayor before the entire audience stood to witness the raising of the Samoan flag and playing of the National Anthem which the team sang proudly.
Following the National Anthem Mr. Kohlhase was presented with a gift from the Village Mayor, and in return Mr. Kohlhase presented her with two beautifully crafted tanoa bowls.
The team were honoured and that His Excellency, , the Head of State Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, Masiofo and the Honourable Minister of Sports, Toomata Poese Alapati Toomata attended this memorable occasion and took the time to greet each team member at the conclusion of the ceremony.
Tomorrow morning will be training as normal for each of our athletes, and from 11am-1pm, Team Samoa will be at the Oceania Welcome Ceremony where the flag bearer for each Oceania Country will be announced. Gifts will be given to each competing athlete, and this will be a great opportunity for the athletes to interact with each other.
Between 6pm and 7:40pm all the teams will leave the village by bus for the Opening Ceremony which will be from 8pm – 10:30pm. So make sure that you look out for us at the Opening Ceremony and remember that when we are waving, we are waving at you, our country SAMOA!!!
We will be the 166th country marching into the stadium as the order is determined by the Chinese alphabet.
For now, Team Samoa is enjoying an early night in preparation for a very exciting and action packed day tomorrow... Stay tuned!
