Rugby Doping Deliberate or Stupid? PDF Print E-mail

Public speculations have been fueled by doping reports involving local rugby players. Two Manu Samoa selected players and an under 20 junior player, are reportedly under suspicion of illegal performance enhancing drug use.
SRU officials are blaming the issue on ignorance, and players not reporting the types of medication they were or are using for treatment of health conditions like asthma.

There are others however who are not buying the excuses and want an investigation carried out on the presence of illegal substance around local athletes.
Champion weightlifter Niusila Opeloge is the first locally raised athlete to be tested positive for drugs.
The problem has now reared its head again with the rugby players.
Fans are wondering if dopers are targeting local athletes and why.

Rugby Doping Deliberate or Stupid?
written by Popo Uli, July 17, 2008
I think the reports should have distinguished between deliberate dobing and taking stuff which included the banned substance. My understanding is that the players werent taking drugs. They were taking a cough medicine not knowing that a substance in the medication is a banned substance. Its just having someone eat a steak thinking its beef but ended up a horse meat.

oohh... I love conspiracys...could it be those o/s samoans who want to grab the locals birthrights? Or even the SRU officials pushing for o/s exposure? heck Mema & Sauga are probably the culprits. 'Come on heros..when u mess up..admit it, fix it & move on - life's a party'.
Drugs in Sports.
written by Geoff, July 18, 2008
Sports are synonymous with Samoans. Samoans are ideal sportspeople given their natural physique, disciplined upbringing, supportive families & a diet of taro, carbos, proteins eg. fish, pork etc. Samoans are reknowned sportpeople for its small population. One needs to look at the NZ All Blacks to note that one-third of it are Samoans. Our beloved Manu Samoa is all Samoans! So when players take drugs to substitute a weakness in training etc. then, those players are simply cheating all other Samoans sportspeople who are competing, naturally!! Lies & cheating cannot substitute hard work & training!!
