Rugby Pre-Season Kicks Off In Savaii

The 10 a Side pre season training officially kicked off in Savaii last weekend. There was some exciting rugby in the weekend with the Savaii 10 A side kicking off pre season training this year. According to Secretary of the Samoa Rugby Union Lilomaiava Taufusi Salesa, the objective of the Savaii 10 A Side was to prepare the local players for the 15 A Side which kicks off in March. He says that this has been a shortage of training time has been a major problem especially for the forwards in the past because they never had enough time to prepare. The newly appointed Assistant Coach of the Manu Samoa, Paepaetele Stan Toomalatai also adds that a lot of boys played at the level that the Union was hoping for. According to Lilomaiava this years tournament in Savaii was a success because a lot of local clubs were involved. According to Tuala Lepale Niko Palamo, Coach of Manu Samoa, the strategy and plan for Manu Samoa this year is very tough. “Every position in the Manu Samoa is up for grabs, being a Manu Samoa player already does not guarantee you a spot in the team.” Tuala says that right now they are looking at players who are dedicated and committed to training.
