Olympic legends, Mark Spitz and Greg Louganis, are two very big fish the Samoa Amateur Sports and National Olympic Committee, SASNOC, wants to be involved in the promotion of swimming and diving for Samoa.
The American and World sporting icons are supposed to have Samoan lineage SASNOC wants to tap into, to attract their golden skills to boost the development of local talents.
The SASNOC President and Member of Parliament, Vaeolenofoafia Tapasu Leung Wai announced the lofty aspiration, today.
“We’ve contacted our consul general in America to look into it,” Vaeolenofoafia revealed in a press conference to explain plans by SASNOC, in the build up to the next South Pacific Games in New Caledonia in 3 years time.
“We’re hoping to have them here for stays of up to 3 months to help our swimmers and divers,” he continued.
The two Olympic events are new to Samoa and only now possible,  with new multi million tala Aqua Centre at the Faleata Sports Complex.
The SASNOC  boss is convinced Samoans have the local talents with the potential to be competitive on the international level.
Having the two sporting celebrities in the country offers an exciting boost for the development of swimming and diving in the country.
International interests in the sporting world are likely to be tremendous as well .

 Mark Spitz

Mark Spitz, considered the swiftest swimmer of all time, made his big splash during the 1972 Olympics, becoming the first athlete to win seven gold medals in an Olympiad. His performances were even more remarkable considering world records were set in all seven events.
Mark Spitz nearly mastered swimming's most difficult stroke, the butterfly.
Fulfilling all the pre-Olympic hype, he won four individual events -- in the 100- and 200-meter freestyle and 100- and 200-meter butterfly -- and three relay races.

Greg Louganis
Widely considered the greatest diver in history; won platform and springboard gold medals at both 1984 and '88 Olympics; also won a silver medal at the 1976 Olympics at the age of 16; won five world championships and 47 U.S. National Diving titles
