CHEERING FANS ; SEGAVAO II fans at the Mulinu’u Peninsula cheering the winner on to take line honours and clean sweep the Teuila Festival races.

NOBLE TAVA'ESINA : Capt. Pauli Ivan Williams leading his Tava'esina crew to a second place win rowing wooden oars behind the champions SEGAVAO II on scoop oars.

SEGAVAO II was unbeatable with spoon oars. There was no beating Captain Vaimasenu’u Zita Martel and her Don Bosco boys today in the second and final race for the Teuila Festival 2008.
With the use of spoon oars SEGAVAO II improved by 6 minutes from Monday’s win of 39 minutes 53 seconds using spoon oars.
Tava’esina were noble at second place but the difference was in the new technology oars. The only difference in the outcome of the race is the La o Samoa from Lepea out rowing the Telefoni o le Vainu’u to place 3rd .

Malo lava
written by CHRIS AH BEN, September 04, 2008
Malo lava to all fautasi and captains and crew for a beautiful display of our traditional boat race this year.
The first race on monday when all fautasi where using traditional oars was the best race to me. it showed how much of a true competition the sport displayed. and well done to all who attended this year.
The second race. well, I think the committee should have made sure all boats had the new modern oars. Segavao won because they had modern oars. But big faamalo also to Tavaesina for a job well done. even though you had used the traditional wooden oars. but you still displayed true Samoan Power.

Malo Chris!

Well I'm sure the committee did inform the Fautasi captains of what is expected of them and what they should do or use. Since I wasn't present on that meeting, I am very sad to hear you stating why Segavao won. The whole point of this race was for all fautasi to use spoon oars but if they don't have any, then they should never have been in the race . Monday's competition has nothing to do with today's and as a matter of fact, the spoon oars are much heavier than wooden oars. Well all fautasi did great but it's very sad hearing such comments about why one fautasi performed well over the rest........

Malo Sina! Yes, I totally agree with you! A win is a win regardless of what oars a fautasi used. Don Bosco won both races so what's the difference?? The crew had trained very hard for the races and they deserve a big faamalo for their win and not trying to put them down again by stating the types of oars they used as the reason for their win. I believe even if Don Bosco used the traditional oars in the second race, they would still win! As for the true Samoan Power mentioned by Chris as shown by the crew of Tava'esina, I find that disatisfying. The Segavao crew did show their true Samoan power in both races as well as all the other teams. Unless there was a crew of non-Samoans participated in the race that I am not aware of. In my belief, all had the true Samoan power. It's just that the Segavao crew nurtured and improved on that power through their training sessions which allowed them to perform better. Fautasi racing is not about where you come from, it is about fitness and I think the Segavao crew showed that they were really fit! Malo Segavao! Faamalo foi to all the other fautasis! Malo le taalo faatamalii! Sometimes it's the fans that try to spoil the true spirit of sportsmanship you show.

Manuia le Faai'uga o le Teuila manuia foi Samoa!
Saint, a proud brother of a Segavao crew.
