Samoa Bids to Host Sevens World Cup Qualifying Rounds

The Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Rugby Union Sua Peter Schuster has confirmed that Samoa has placed a bid to host the Rugby World Cup Sevens Qualifying Rounds. Sua says that the Manu Sevens Team has yet to qualify for the Sevens World Cup since 2004, and there are two spots left for Pacific Island teams. “Samoa still has to vie against other tough opponents such as the Cook Islands in order to secure a spot,” says Sua. The Pacific Island teams that have already qualified include New Zealand, Australia and Fiji. He adds that they are also hoping o host the Women’s Qualifying Rounds as there will also be a Sevens World Cup for Women in 2009.
