Samoa Gets $11m From IRB PDF Print E-mail

Samoa’s rugby development have about SAT$11 million to play with over the next 4 years, from 2009 to 2012,  with a grant from the International Rugby Board.

The funding is part of a SAT$234 million funding pie the IRB is slicing off for the development of rugby world wide.

The funding allocation for Samoa will be, “largely for infrastructure development”, according to the breakdown of all the grants reported this week

Samoa, Fiji and Japan are among the leading beneficiaries of the IRB investment programme for “22 tier one, two and three nations …which largely funds high performance and infrastructure initiatives.”

Woo Hoo !!!

Its about time the IRB puts their money where it matters. Polynesians are the best rugby players on the planet and that means our local boys. We put rugby on the map every time we step on the international stage.

So lets put this money to good use. Lets get this party started !!!
waste of money

samoa will never get anywhere in rugby. poor country will always be poor despite the hand-outs its given. so be it rugby or country infrastructure it will all be in vain. wait till the prime minister gets his hands on that money, and don't think for a moment that he couldn't... he is Samoa Rugby Union chairman, he's gonna keep for next election's campaign. SAMOA IS DESTINED FOR FAILURE!

I totally disagreed with Salasopa's post of "waste of money" to help the development of rugby in Samoa. It seems like you don't like the Prime Minister and the way he runs things but the intention of the money is for a good course. Samoa 15 a side team might not be that well respected in the world but the 7s is doing a hell of a job. Also look at all the Samoan rugby players playing overseas making names for themselves at the same time helping their families. The Manu Sina is developing and soon will make a name for themselves and our country. The bottom line is, Samoa need the money to develop our players...we can't help it if people misuse funds. Onlly God knows and will judge them accordingly. Good Day!
