Falana’ipupu Ropati Genoas of the Samoa Football Federation

The Soccer World Cup qualifying match between New Zealand’s All Whites and Fiji later this year will be beneficial for Samoa in more than one way.
For a start, the match, scheduled to be played on the 23rd of June, will be staged at the Toleafoa Grounds in Tuana’imato.
“It’s supposed to be New Zealand’s home game,” Falana’ipupu Ropati Genoas of the Samoa Football Federation said yesterday.
“But due to diplomatic differences between Fiji and New Zealand, that match could not be staged in New Zealand. So New Zealand requested to play here and our Federation accepted their request.”
Although, details of the match day programme and costs are not yet finalized, its possible Samoa could have a fair share of the gates and other costs to the facilities used.

On the other hand, Falana’ipupu said our economy will also benefit.
“I’m pretty sure both these teams will have a fair bit of spectators to bring along,” he said. “That means hotels will be filled, foreign exchange will be received by us.”
But perhaps most importantly, Falana’ipupu said the match will also boost the profile soccer locally.
“I think it will be great for our local players especially the youths to have the opportunity to see top players in both these teams playing in real life here.
“Especially the All Whites. They are the number one team in the Oceania and they weren’t part of the South Pacific Games. So it’ll be great to have these players playing on our home soil.”
The All Whites is most likely to qualify for Soccer’s World Cup to be held in South Africa in 2010.
They played the top three teams from the South Pacific Games, Fiji, Vanuatu and New Caledonia and so far they’re undefeated.
