The abundance of breadfruit supplies in recent years with the 12 month long seasons, has led to the latest move by the Samoan government to undertake research intyo the viability of extracting ethanol from breadfruit. Ethanol is expected to be used for running hybrid cars using biofuels. The UN has made a grant to Samoa so that the research could be undertaken into the ethanol production. The research programme is expected to take at least 2 years in Samoa.

Ethanol has become a popular choice by countries trying to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Brazil and the USa lead the world in the ethanol research for fossil fuel substitutes

It takes more energy to produce ethanol.......What needs to happen is a change of lifestyle and move away from OIL depedancy! Don't be fooled into thinking OIL is only about fuel for your car! 99.5 percent of household products are OIL based and or relied on oil to end up in your house.

Ethanol is produced by fermenting renewable crops like corn or sugarcane. It may sound green, Patzek says, but that's because many scientists are not looking at the whole picture. According to his research, more fossil energy is used to produce ethanol than the energy contained within it. Science Daily (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...

..........It's going to take a lot of Breadfruit to run a car! So how many acres of land will be used to keep up our addiction to OIL?...and not feed the people!
