The Hon. Minister of Works, Transport and Infrastructure and
Chairman for Samoa Shipping Corporation (SSC), Afioga
Tuisugaletaua A Sofara Aveau and Managing Director Papalii
Wilie Nansen sealed a deal yesterday afternoon after signing
all the handover and delivery documents for the acquisition of
the Fast Ferry “Reef Quest” from Mr. Tony Physick owner and
Managing Director of Deep Sea Divers Den

The purchasing of the Fast Ferry to set up a Day Cruise
Operation was approved by Cabinet in December 2007
after a thorough inspection was carried out by a selected
committee appointed by the Board before a recommendation
was submitted and approved for the purchase to proceed.

The initiative by SSC to set up a Day Cruise Operation will not
only add a new product to our Tourism Market but it will be
the newest addition to the list of activities the Tourists can
choose to experience what Samoa as a destination can offer.
The Fast Ferry is a Dive Boat as well, fitted with deep sea
diving equipments and gears as well as scuba diving
accessories. For SSC staff to be fully equipped with the safety
knowledge and necessary diving skills, Diving Instructors from
Australia will be seconded to Samoa to provide the training
through a long term partnership with Deep Sea Divers Den
a well known Diving Company in Cairns, Australia.

The establishment of a Day Cruise Operation forms part of
SSC’s overall strategies to achieve it’s business growth
objectives as stipulated in it’s current Corporate Plan
for 2008 -2010, and supporting Samoa’s National Tourism
Development Strategy. SSC Board and staff have been working
on this project for almost 12 months now and are excited
and look forward to the new challenges this new service
will bring as well as the benefits Samoa will enjoy.

The Day Cruise Operation will be operating under the name
“TALOFA CRUISES” whilst the first vessel of the Talofa Cruises Fleet will be named “Lady Filifilia”. The SSC crew to be led by Captain
Faamatuainu Faafetai and Chief Engineer Mulipola Kitiona
will leave Cairns, Australia for Apia on Tuesday,
26th February 2008.

The visiting Samoan delegation and crew acknowledges the
support and generosity of the Cairns Samoan Community
especially Rev. Faanu and the Methodist Church in Cairns,
Queensland Australia for their kindness and assistance offered
to the Captain & Crew for the preparation of the delivery voyage.
