Samoans living overseas that travel to Samoa have generally increased throughout the years.
This was confirmed by the President of the Samoa Hotel Association, Nanette Sass, “We refer to overseas Samoans visiting our shores, as visiting friends and family (VFF) and the general trend over is years is that the number is increasing,” says Sass.
She pointed out that one of the main reasons for this increase, is that VFF prefer not to stay with their families here.
“Most Samoans based overseas just want to come here and relax and have their own freedom and not spend it with their families, so they opt to stay in hotels.”
She also adds that the hotel packages available are another reason.

“Another reason is that our VFF are taking advantage of the packages and specials offered by the hotels.
She says that right now an estimated number of overseas Samoans that traveled here during the holiday season is not available right now as they are still awaiting figures from hotel operators.
“We are still trying to gather the occupancy rates during this period from hoteliers, but I anticipate that the trend will continue to increase.”
Sass says that the majority of these visiting Samoans staying in Samoa are either from Australia, New Zealand or the United States of America.
